I have a collection of bus timetables dating from the early 1960s. They're mostly London Country timetables from the Northwest Area (West Herts and Bucks) but there are a number from other areas and some from other parts of the country. I'd like to give them away to anyone who might be interested in them. There's a lot of them in two boxes, and they're quite heavy so would be expensive to ship, so it would be best if you could collect them. I live in Aylesbury.

The people who run timetableworld.com might be interested in scanning some of them for the website.

Would agree about trying to find an organisation to take them on, rather than an individual that might spin a good yarn and will most likely go on and sell them for profit...

Another possible that's fairly local might be the Amersham and District Motorbus Society

Other than having been to a few of their running days, I've no connection with them - don't know if they have an archive as such, alternatively might be happy to accept them and sell them on to support their work.

Or the London Transport Museum Friends, again, believe they do a sales stall for anything that's donated that's a duplicate to what's already in the archives.

Thanks very much for all these suggestions. I tried to contact the Amersham and District Bus society a few weeks ago through the contact form on their website, but I didn't get a reply. I hope some of the others are more responsive.

I'm from West Yorkshire and the local Joint Service Board (set up after the West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council was abolished in 1986) also has an archive service (West Yorkshire Archives), I suspect that Buckinghamshire would have something similar - if so would the Buckinghamshire equivilent be interested in them?

My timetables have now gone to Timetable World and have been saved from recycling. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

There are 413 bus timetables on TTW. Some meaty books, some leaflets. But 69,127 pages. Many are scanned paper documents, but some are captured from web archives.

There are also 58 bus maps, but some bus maps are part of timetable books.

That is good news - I'm sure they've gone to the best place, where they can be used for the benefit of those delving into bus history.

Thanks for asking on here and not just recycling them.

I'm sure they'll be of interest to enthusiasts, researchers and historians in the future.

Thanks for letting us know. It's good to know that they've to a place that will allow others to view the collection.
