Generally if you don't want to pay such a high fare, don't use Arriva, and be careful with Stagecoach and First Group. Indepedant operators are obviously much cheaper than those 3 but its not always the case as i found t'other day

Most people don't have a choice who they can use, other than choosing alternative modes such as train, car and walking.

Where I live,
We have two bus routes
The X6, which goes from Stockton, to Middlesbrough Via Ingleby barwick (Where I live), and we have a second bus, the 17 which runs from Yarm to Middlesbrough via Ingleby Barwick, Thornaby (Round the estates), We have no service on a sunday, we are virtualy isolated, yet they encourage us to get out of the car, and use the bus.

With a bus service as rubbish as it is, why should we?! lol

There isn't a single bus shelter thats in use through Ingleby, as when they cut the buses and changed em, they decided to stop serving most of the roads, and these main roads had just had nice new shelters, put in!

We had an independent who charged £1.10 into town or £1.80 return as opposed to £1.90 single or £4.00 return with First. Unfortunately, they had slight issues in that a) the drivers nicked the company's cash so they had trouble paying bills, b) their vehicles were sheds on wheels, and c) the concept of a timetable didn't occur to them.

Hey! I have a 50cc bike which I've had since I was 16 with 2 yr no claims, what's wrong with them? It's certaintly been a lifeline in getting me to college (now finished so I'm selling it) for which the bus was just too slow & costly.

My old school route had a fare rise this year, it's going to be 7.50 for a day return - bear in mind this is for a bus that leaks, isn't maintained properly, and breaks down on a weekly basis.

They were took over by Stagecoach about a year and half ago now!

Nope - although I did pay £2.70 with them for a trip between Scunthorpe and Gainsborough the other week, and it was OWG604X...

I know. It was a tounge in cheek post. I have the (mis)fortune to but up with SC around here (only used busses twice in the last 2 years), and been gob smacked by the fare increase between Ashby and Scunthorpe town center.

How about this...Mon-Sat there's a bus every hour in each direction, with a slower more roundabout one 5mins after it

Sundays- 2 busses a day

Bear in mind that my garden faces onto the A6 and I live halfway between Kendal and Lancaster

The bus shelters in the town cannot be called shelters; they're a roof on stilts (1 in each corner) and do nothing to keep you dry, give you somewhere to sit etc

Single for me £4.75. return £5.95.

And my mates moan that their fare goes up approx. 10p per increast, whereas mine goes up by nearly 50p!

I have a bus that runs past my house half hourly during the day and all day on Weekends. During the peak hours it becomes more frequent (about every 10-20 mins).

One end of my road (less than 10min walk) has buses every 12 mins, every half hour nights and Sundays.

Other end of my road (15 min walk) has buses every 3-4 mins.

Fares depend on how far you want to travel, but I normally just pay £1.60.

Whilst the bus company in its annual mailshot said the day return had gone up to £7.50... got on with my £7.50 whereupon the driver said "I've not heard anything about it, fare table still says £7, so you're paying that.".

We're lucky enough to have a nationalised bus company serving the main road a minute from the house.

However I've never used the service as it's only 25 minute walk to the station and 35 minutes to the town centre from here.
