They're quite common (although some are very short and only exist within a single junction).

Swansea has one which is used by the FTR metro and Llandore Park & Ride buses with other buses having to run via the main road as local residents went up in arms when First suggested running all their buses between Llandore & High Street Station via this bus road.

You can see the road on your right hand side as you arrive by train into Swansea

Causeway lane in leicester is meant to be bus and taxi only, however a lot of drivers don't listen and use it anyway. It is getting better since the council have started fining people.

Yep, like that. I think Runcorn is an extreme example.

There are many non-guided busways around the world. There are too many to list but Wikipedia has a lot of information on them

The most famous systems in the world are in Bogota and Curitiba where they shift over a million of people per day. Closer to home, the Dutch systems are very impressive, especially the Schiphol scheme south of Amsterdam where a brand new 15 miles long road has been built for buses only incorporating tunnels and viaducts.

The new town Almere east of Amsterdam has the whole bus network on segregated roads, similar to Runcorn but better.

Utrecht and Eindhoven have a few routes which are nearly fully segregated.

Rouen in northern France has a good system as well.

Preston has a bus lane on the ringway. Infact Friargate (formerly housing Benjamin Franklin) outbound is exclusively served by buses.

There is a bus only road approx 1.5km long on the south bank of the Tyne between Teams and Gateshead, used by the x66 metrocentre shuttle.

Some cars use it anyway, and it's very rarely enforced (I've only seen one person stopped for using Princes Street in a car).

Bracknell has a few link roads for buses only, principally crossing over main roads, but also between estate roads that are close together.

I think you're right Paul. I remember the tour of the Runcorn Busway on the old X3 from Manchester to Chester

Its quite hard to think of two-way roads that are just buses in both directions and exclude even pedal cycles.

In Leeds, the city square end of Park Row is about the best I can think of.

There is the Millennium Busway which was intended to be a wire guided system which never worked properly and in the end they gave up and turned it into a normal road for standard stage carriage services.

I don't believe trams were really seriously considered. At a relatively early stage, TfL said that the demand was too low for trams. However, it was meant to be a far more comprehensive busway scheme, incorporating the now shelved Greenwich Waterfront Transit.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Eclipse service between Fareham and Gosport which is a brand new bus only road converted from a railway trackbed. But I suppose it was in the list of schemes shown in the Wikipedia page I quoted earlier.

The eindhoven route referred to above are they using the buses that look like ftrs? i saw somthing looking like them in december but they where very noisy.

Torquay Fleet Street is Bus Only along with a small section of embankment road in Plymouth. Also most of the inner Birmingham City Centre is Bus and Taxi Only (or being coverted)

The Strait Bargate in Boston is local buses only... plus pedestrians. This is so the buses don't have to circumnavigate the town centre.

The road along the west side of Gloucester Dock, over the newer lift bridge is buses only. Equipped with cameras to get the car drivers, as I found out!
