Does anyone on here go to bus rallies? I go to a few, and in particular the Heaton Park event in Manchester.

I see there is a "Metro 40" event in Bradford tomorrow, does anyone know whether it's likely to be any good?

Thanks

If you happen to be in Winchester on New Years Day there is a bus rally organised by FoKAB (Friends of King Alfred Buses). It might be on New Years Day next year though as the bus station is being redeveloped.

Nonetheless, it's worth attending, as around 40 buses turn up offering journeys to various destinations around Winchester.

It has been years since I have been to a bus rally but I have Always enjoyed them. I know at the end of this month the GCR are holding a vintage bus and rail day at quorn. A mixture of both should be double the fun!

The 'Friends of King Alfred Buses' group announced this year that the 2014 event was going to be the last 1 January event.

If we're thinking in terms of bus events with railway links, I'd recommend the July Alton Bus Rally, which has quite a lot of bus services connecting with the Mid Hants.

Also, the May Taunton event has a connecting service to the WSR at Bishops Lydeard.

http://www.classicbuses.co.uk/events.html is about the most comprehensive listing of bus events on the web.

I will also be attending the SWT centenary on 18th may. We are on a weeks holiday staying in Porthcawl that week. Promised to take the family away for a week so scheduled it appropriately.

I always enjoy the Lincolnshire Vintage Vehicle Society's open days on Easter Sunday (20/04/14) and the end of season one in November (02/11/14) - the latter is normally the best of the two, but both are good days out. As well as the visiting vehicles, plenty of the Society's collection are out on the roads for free trips into the city centre, and further afield.

Well recommended if you can make it.

Very true - though there's normally a good turn out. Various other groups have operated trips in the past, but no doubt turnout could be improved if there were more trains - Hykeham station is only a couple of minutes walk away too. I think that's a topic for another thread though

Unfortunately the railway isn't going to out on an extra train or two for a bus rally! I attended the Metro40 event in Bradford today (having driven to Shipley and catching the train from there - going by train would have meant I would have got there much later) and thought it was a great event. I'm not a big bus crank but have a soft spot from those I remember in the 80s, so this one suited me. Might do the Routemaster 60 event at Finsbury Park in July, I did the RM 50 event at the same place back in 2004.

Was a shame that that event didn't seem to get much publicity - I saw about it a couple of weeks ago on another public transport forum and then the day before at Keighley bus station - unfortunately I already had commitments that day by the time I knew about it.
