Bus modelling info/schematics

Hi

Can anyone recommend a good source of information for modelling buses. In particular the Leyland Dab bendy buses used by SYT in the eighties, and the short wheel base Leyland Olympian double decker used by Yorkshire Traction?

I’m rediscovering my love of scratch building, but in a larger scale to compensate for my eyesight.

Dimensions and drawings of bodywork, chassis, seating layout, etc And maybe seating fabric pattern.

Google and Amazon weren’t as helpful as I’d hoped.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

There were some MK1 National kits available a few years ago. I think they were made by Tower Models, but it was over 20 years ago that I bought them. The Leyland DAB artics used some standard National body parts, but as they had a higher floor, the skirt panels were slightly deeper. I've seen a couple of these kits still available on eBay in recent times, so they might.be useful for a bit of kit-bashing.

I saw a load of Olympian kits in a model shop in Leeds, I think, twenty something years ago. I wish I’d bought a few now, seeing as they were only about £3. Not that I had many spare £3 pound back then.

The scale is out though for purposes, as I’m going for something 12th or 24th scale, with the detail down to the ticket machine and stop-bell level.

The dimensions of the Olympian are on Wiki, and with luck there might be one at the Morecambe festival this month. The Rotherham arctic is going to be a lot trickier.

The museum’s Archives department holds historic archives, technical documents and many thousands of photographs from the old Leyland Vehicles Group of companies which included vehicles from manufacturers such as Leyland, Albion, AEC, Scammell & Guy.

Technical documents include specification and chassis build sheets for these makes, and these can be made available to vehicle restorers, repairers and authors seeking information.

Our vast collection of period photographs has been reclaimed from glass plate images and after careful digital restoration by our archivists, we now have an ever growing library of pictures on file. These too are available for purchase on-line (click here to see range of photographs available).

Might be worth dropping them a line, if you haven't tried already. If they haven't got what you need, they might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck
