Evening all,

Just wanted to confirm the validity of a Bus Day Return ticket that appears to still be sold by First Great Western when the bus operator states that this is no longer available.

Would this still be valid for travel?

Thanks,

Provided that the service is not listed in the National Rail Timetable, I doubt that the bus operator would be bound by the NRCoC, which means a refund from the seller for the incorrectly issued Bus Day Return (assuming that the agreement with the bus operator with respect to that particular fare had indeed ended).

As you are fully aware the bus no longer runs why would you buy the ticket except to try and be a smartarse!

Assuming you are referring to a Western Greyhound service their bus routes have recently been taken over by other operators (including First!) which is likely to have an impact on services and ticket acceptance.

To try and get a cheap ticket?

I know someone bought a ticket to Heathrow Bus from the WCML changing to a bus at Watford from a TVM somewhere (one of LMs), it shouldn't have been on there, the bus driver didn't accept it, and I believe LM paid the guy's taxi fare in the end as he needed to be at Heathrow in time for his plane!

We know this is the case here, but for a general punter who doesn't know it no longer exists, how would they stand when they get rejected by the bus driver.

there is 4 buses an hour from the railway station to the bus destination he is querying, 2 from western greyhound, 2 from First. A third operator has a 4 buses per day service. This third operator took over the route that the ticket was valid on and cut frequency to make the route viable. The ticket says valid on a bus route that ceased around November 2013, but FGW are still selling the ticket through their ticket sales facility.
Depending on the original posters origin there may be cheaper options anyway if he is looking to save money,

Well, the TVM is making an open ended offer of a contract for travel to there, its up to the TOCs to get you there...

Thanks for all your answers, as I know now this ticket is definitely invalid then I cannot make my planned trip as this was the only option inside my current budget

Surely if you have a National Rail ticket then it's the responsibility of the train operating companies to get you to the destination shown on the ticket. If the bus driver won't accept it go back to the station and ask for a taxi?

Not if you enter into a contract knowing that they've made a mistake with the conditions, as I understand it

This poster knows as they have sought advise here, but how about somebody who buys the ticket from FGW website having not read the thread or asked the question.

For the record FGW have sorted this on their website and shows as No fare available.
