Dramatic pictures as two buses collide and one smashes into bus station

AN incident at a Teesside bus station has reportedly seen two buses collide with one partially inside the building.

AN incident at Middlesbrough bus station has reportedly seen two buses collide with one partially inside the building.


It is understood an Arriva North East and Go North East bus were involved in a collision at the station on Newport Road on Thursday night.


Dramatic pictures captured the aftermath of the incident, which shows the front end of an Arriva North East service partially inside the stand.

Two buses have crashed in Middlesbrough today with one bus sent careering through the façade and into the terminal area. Thankfully no reports of injuries.
Arriva and Go North East involved. I know these companies are competing on some key NE routes such as the NCLE-Durham-Bishop Auckland.

This evening two bus drivers for rival companies got into a disagreement over who had priority to pick up passengers and ended up ramming each others buses causing one bus to burst through a wall onto the bus station concourse! One witness, Doris of Grove Hill, said: "it was like something out of a movie" another, Dave from North Ormesby, said that "it's lucky that no-one was killed! I had been nearby just a few minutes before with my nan and it could have been very different if we'd stood over there rather than over here!". We've reached out for comment from the companies but this evening, whilst it's currently calm in Middlesbrough, everyone's worrying that this 'bus war' might now enter a new more destructive phase.​

Considering their cost, unreliability and now this, those Elites seem to be a cursed acquisition for Go North East. After less than a year they’re in the process of withdrawing them.

Glad that no one is apparently injured.

Looking at the pictures it appears that the Arriva bus was stationary parked on stand and the Go North East Elite has hit it whilst manoeuvring. Maybe the driver was distracted (by someone?) at just the wrong moment?

Of course things may not be what they seem at first glance.

I love the reference to Doris. Doris Hare, who lived to a remarkable old age, played Stan's mother in 'On the Buses'. Sounds like a Stan, Jack and Blakey episode in the making for an update.
