I'm not sure if this should be here or in International Transport, as the thought occurred while abroad.
Okay, I'm not an engineer, so may be missing something. Do bus articulation bellows always have the 'keyhole' shape rather than being full width to the floor, and if so, why? Is there something structural low down on either side that needs covering? On some trams there will be wheels if the articulation is over a bogie - in fact, it was the full-width bellows on a new Prague tram that made me pose the question - but that's not the case on buses or trolleybuses. Or is it for passenger safety in some way that hasn't dawned on me?
