Hi all,

Please could you confirm whether a Burnley Manchester Road to London Terminals £116.50 Off Peak Return (route Any Permitted) is permitted to be used to travel via Doncaster?

I thought that it wasn't valid but Journey Planner systems are offering it on journeys via Leeds/Doncaster to connect with LNER services down to London.

This is despite there also being LNER single fares route via Doncaster being available.

Thanks.

It's permitted as far as I can tell - Sowerby Bridge (which is a member of the Halifax Routeing Point Group) passes the fares check, thus permitting routes from Halifax to London which of course include the ECML via Doncaster.

There doesn't appear to be any negative easement that would rule out this route either.

Thanks Watershed. I wonder why LNER added "via Doncaster" ticket options then.

They provide a discount versus the Any Permitted singles, no?

I can't view the old LNER return pricing, assuming there was one before single-leg pricing, but perhaps it did undercut the Any Permitted back then too, and now it no longer does?

It is indeed valid.

I regularly use it to travel from Leeds to London.
