After the 87's have been tested at Crewe, how do they get to Bulgaria? Under their own power or are they towed the whole way?

Towed and out via Dollands Moor, after all the Bulgarian railways don't require OTMR or TPWS.

Towed as they dont have TPWS and OTMR as said nor do they have yellow panels, a requirement for all locos exept steam

Latest ones have been going on lorries from Crewe (or Rugby) to Hull Docks and thence by boat/barge across Central Europe AFAIK.

The few went to the Colas depot at Rugby then onto a lorry and ferry

it's sometimes a bit of a farce with the movement considering they all seem to go via Birmingham New Street till recently anyway.

The PAN-TEN (Eastern Europe extension to the Trans European Network) routes in Bulgaria ("Corridor 8") have been equipped with ETCS (ERTMS) for some time, which includes OTMR. I assume that if the 87s are going to run on these routes, they will have the equipment fitted in BG.
