Building by tracks just outside of euston??

Hi All

I took my first WCML trip at weekend into london and noticed an old building just outside of euston what looked like an old train shed??

Ive tried googling to no luck but wondered if anyone know what it was??

Euston Downside Shed, last used by RES for postal van maintenance.

That's Downside.

Most recently used for stabling TPO stock before that was abolished.





And once (in)famously used for stabling rolling stock overnight for a railtour the next day and then they apparently forgot where it was stabled and said tour ended up departing a couple of hours late, with one class 33 locomotive instead of the booked two ( the other having failed ) thus losing more time en route through the resulting low power to weight ratio, having to miss part of the booked route on account of the late running, a curtailed stay at the destination that was the whole point of the trip.

It was so bad that participants were offered a free compensatory railtour to cover the missed sections of track, and BR managed to make a bog of that trip as well...


Those who, like me, were on board will know exactly which trip I am talking about!

A very good question indeed...!!

It's funny now, looking back after a couple of decades, but it most certainly was not funny at the time, especially since they bodged the equivalent tour the following year ( albeit from a different terminus and at least that time the stock was present as booked! )...:roll:
