Buffer stop lights

I wonder if anyone can help me to pin down a few dates. During the 1980s, it was practice for electric buffer stop lights to comprise two lights on the left and one on the right as shown in the example below, but when did this originate? I'm guessing around mid-1970s.

At some point in time, it was decided to dispense with the right-hand light, as shown below. Again, does anyone have an idea of the date that this change occurred (1990s?)?

Finally, when was the red and white reflectorised marker plate (as seen in the first photo) first fitted to buffer stops? It's mentioned in a standard dated 1996, but might it have been introduced a few years earlier?

Definitely isn't Chester.

It's Largs (where a buffer stop, and the station building behind it, got demolished by a 318 in 1995).

When Hertford North got resignalled last year, Network Rail removed the existing plate attached to buffers in Platform 3 (bay platform), a example is supplied as seen in your photo and simply painted the buffers white, not sure if this is a new standard though?

Strange. The red and white board is definitely still standard as it's mentioned in Railway Group Standards GK/RT0057 and GK/RT0058, which don't come into force until March 2015.

Very strange, I think the buffers in the yard are done like that too.
