Budapest to Croatia

I’m looking at travelling from Budapest to Zcre Beach in Croatia in June next year. Nearest town to Zcre beach is Novaljia, nearest airport is Zadar.

I’ve found a bus that goes to zagreb and then change and costs £40 euro and takes 9 hours. I was wondering what it would be like by train? Any tips?

FROm Bp till Zagreb its 9 eur for a small advance quota or 19 eur for a widely available local fare untill departure. You can book online, but take some time to get used to its a bit uncommon outlay on mav-csoport.hu. You do NOT get a ticket online, but a code with which you can retrieve the actual ticket to use from any yellow MAV machine anywhere in HU only=same as Brit practice. FLIXbuses run ev 2 hrs throughout the day, are a bit quicker as trains and should be self-evident in how to book with market pricing. Both in Bp and Zag bus/train are some distance apart with local tram/metro needed. This train passes by southside of lake Balaton in HU but you wont see much of it nor ´nice views´.
AFAIK the overnight train Zag-coast only runs to Split and you have to change to go to Zadar-and most Brits are horrified when seeing these socalled ´unsocial´ early hours. LOcally in summer its already broad daylight then with many people already going to work (which is wintertime also the case). In high summer there usually is a not daily direct overnight all the way from Bp to Split

Are there still trains to Zadar? I was there at the end of September/beginning of October and to be honest I assumed the railway was disused. The line is still there but I never saw a train, and the platforms I could see from the main road between gaps in the houses looked derelict. Where I expected the station building to be now seems to be a Spar and a McDonald's.

EDIT: I've just looked on the Croatian railways web site and, although times are listed, it appears to be a bus.

Been there two years ago and can confirm, no trains in Zadar at all. I looked at it, and the rail/bus service from Zadar to Zagreb via Knin seems highly unpopular, as direct buses to Zagreb are much faster. There is a huge bus station just near the disused tracks, but nobody in that station could even tell me where the railway bus to Knin was starting from. All people I talked to in the south of Croatia tokd me that the train is totally useless.

Thanks everyone. this is what I have found on the bus and think it looks the best option- train would be preferred but takes too long and appears to not run down to the south.

00-20 budapest- 5am Zagreb
Zagreb 7am to Novajia 15-30

what are these buses like to get sleep on?
