Budapest/Berlin night train 'Metropol' returns

From December 9th 2018 the Metropol EuroNight train runs to Berlin in a renewed form again. You will be able to travel directly on an overnight journey between Budapest and Berlin.

Apart from the direct connection between the Hungarian and German capitals, we are also waiting for our passengers with high quality services on board.

The train will run every day between Budapest and Berlin through Poland, via Wroclaw.

This service is being reinstated.

I'm interested in the economics behind this - what has changed that has allowed it to run again?

More likely DB(or DB Netze): the new train has much less mileage in Germany (Berlin-Frankfurt/O instead of Schoena).
It also combines with the Warsaw portion through CZ from Břeclav to Bohumin, and the Prague-Budapest section is carried by an IC as far as Breclav, so the total loco and crew mileage is much reduced.
I think the two together make the difference in terms of viability.

Presumably because terminating a train at Hbf blocks the platform for too long, whereas C has spare platforms.

Looks normally that the train is going through Bratislava so that in Breclav there is a connection from/to Wien. Going through Poland is a detour compared with the normal/past route of Praha and Dresden. In the past it was (say) 8 hours from Breclav to Berlin; now (ok with bad connections) it takes 11 hours.

Compared with the last through working of Metropol, it's about 30 minutes longer to/from Berlin Hbf - but that included a bit of a stop in Břeclav. The distance is also not very different, despite going via Frankfurt/O instead of Cottbus.

Lets see what they will charge for ''advance''. This spring I travelled BUD-WAW in also about 11 hrs via 4 countries (pases both Sk and CZ) and it cost me 19€/in a seat-had the whole 6 seated compartmt for myself except the last leg in Poland from Krakow.
The nearly 11 hrs that the daytime''express'' BUD-Ljubljana takes (for much less KMs thouch) can be had for-if lucky, much fewer quota, 9€/single.

???? It doesn't take 11 hours, unless it's been diverted. Takes about 8-30. I think the summer night train (tiwce a week?) goes via Maribor, so that takes longer.
