The next batch of figures should be out around May / June IIRC so they will hopefully give a more accurate figure, as it only opened part way through the 11-12 count.

How do you get to these numbers? OK, I get people buying a ticket with the station on, either outbound or return.

But I'm sure there are all-day tickets (such as Gtr Manchester Ranger here, so I presume there's a similar ticket for Lancashire?) where people can use a station several times daily but it not show up on the figures?

At weekends, for example, I will often have a GMR (or even rail/bus ticket bought on a bus so no station will show up) and leave at Bolton and return via Lostock.

Anyone?

I don't think it is possible. Just as you can't count someone who stops short, like I always do at a particular station on a particular ticket. Break of Journey can't be counted either.

Be interesting to compare up to date figures for Buckshaw with Leyland and Chorley.

From my own observations of the car parks especially, I reckon quite a few people are using Buckshaw instead of the other 2.

The odd time I've been to Manchester since BSV opened I've driven there instead of using Leyland.....free car park, more trains and cheaper fare

Likewise people in north Chorley area going to Preston are using BSV rather than Chorley.

Buckshaw Parkway is quite a long way beyond the boundary for the Greater Manchester area so they wont come under those tickets. I sell a hell of alot of tickets to people with GM free passes from the boundary at Blackrod to Preston or Blackpool, so if they look through the figures those stations are going to seem very popular indeed!!!

Ive never sold a single Lancashire day ranger the Manchester end so I cant say how popular (or not) they are.

Buckshaw Parkway also serves the nearby large new housing development, which together with the very large new industrial unit developments, makes a new use for the land area of the former military establishment that once occupied the site area and had its own railway station.

Whilst we live in Cheshire East and not entitled to such benefits, my wife has retired female friends in Heald Green (covered by the TfGM issued ENCTS passes) who need only book onwards from Littleborough to Hebden Bridge, Appley Bridge to Southport, Bromley Cross to Clitheroe and Blackrod to Preston on days-out day trips. I should well imagine there are considerable savings to be made by this method.

What you have said is defiantly happening. Like you said, free car park, more trains. I really like the station. Anyone know when there opening the other footpath at the back of the car park?

They do random manual counts for a few days every few years to fill in the missing ticket data. In the future as most new trains have and older trains are being fitted with automatic passenger counting equipment (by Dft directive) you should get a pretty good idea of how many actually board or disembark and on which exact services.

We should organise a bus load of ramblers to walk in then walk off the same train at Altnabreac to test the equipment and bump it up the list!

Chorley is the boundary on the Bolton to Preston line. The senior GM Wayfarer is indeed a good bargain for me being a Lancashire County resident.
Is there a Lancashire Wayfarer ticket? If so it would be a bit difficult to administer given that Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen are unitary authorities. But I would be interested in using one for days out to the Silverdale area.

Theres a Lancashire Day Ranger ticket, but its twice as expensive.

So there we have it. As we suspected, little change for Leyland and Chorley but a big jump for Buckshaw.

Further down the line, Adlington has dropped slightly, but Blackrod, Horwich and Lostock are all up significantly.

Does support the theory that passengers have switched to Buckshaw from Leyland and Chorley. Just need to stop people parking on the approach road to the station and we're sorted :roll:

Before moving to Manchester, I used to use Buckshaw Parkway daily for my commute to work. This is despite living only about 3 miles from Preston station. The lure of free parking made it far more convenient to use, despite Preston having more regular trains to Manchester.

Good idea. However Altnabreac is only accessible by gated estate tracks. The nearest public road is 10 miles away, so the ramblers would have to walk a little further than on and off the train

Still good for a cheap ticket to Wigan though, 490 from Euxton and 1070 from Buckshaw. Is that because it's just off another line? So many stations in a small area. I like it. Have you seen the new departures from Buckshaw parkway as from may leyland lad? The now 0610 from leyland tpe departure to Manchester airport will now be a northern service to Manchester Vic calling additionally at Buckshaw parkway and Adlington lancs. Can't understand why it didn't call at Buckshaw anyway since the now rerouted departure from Manchester pic at 0544 to Blackpool North now calls at Buckshaw parkway. Where's at the min when tpe leave leyland at 0610 first stop chorley

Don't see why early services cant stop at Leyland and Buckshaw...same in the evening return. Most trains I've seen going north from Buckshaw get stopped at the signal before Euxton Jnc anyway.

I think the fact that the 0610 service from leyland to Manchester airport will change to a Manchester Vic service will naff a few people off down the line. Also NRE says the Saturday journey doesn't operate at all?
