Is the mid platform escalator on the Eurostar platform's 1 & 2 at Brussels Midi open at the moment? A late booking has put me at the rear of an almost full Eurostar,and I hopefully want to connect with the Cologne/Frankfurt ICE.

There is no way to tell in advance. IIRC it can be open at the discretion of the Belgian customs. You can change your seat using Manage your booking on the Eurostar website, of course supposing there's a free seat nearer to the front. Als check whether your Eurostar continues to Amsterdam or not, because if so, it uses platform 3.

Your best bet is to wait until half an hour before arrival in Brussels and move yourself to the front of the train and wait by the doors for arrival. The timing is tricky, you don't want to spend half the journey standing at the doors in the first carriage, but you also don't want to leave it so late that people are milling about in the aisles getting ready to get off.

Correct. About 10 minutes before your message I did this and managed to grab a seat in carriage 14.So I am a Happy Chappy!
