Bromley North

Does anyone use this branch....When i lived in Kent I went on it a few times, i even remember when peak semi-fast service ran direct from Charing Cross to Bromley North.....All gone now, but I just wondered how the branch line was doing these days ??

As far Is I'm aware it's still going strong - I often see the shuttle waiting when passing through Grove Park, although I've not actually been along it since slammer days.

Still going strong and heavily used during the peaks. It is in TC zone 4 whereas Bromley South is in zone 5

Latest ticket data shows Bromley North with 627k & Sundridge Park with 366k. Bromley South on the mainline however puts them in the shadows with a whopping 5.8million.

well quite- South is a super, super busy station with twelve carriage trains and non-stop services to central London in the peaks, plus trains to destinations outside London. North is a more genteel little (though long-platformed) Terminal with a diddy two-car shuttle every half an hour. North would perhaps be more useful if more of the Grove Park services also stopped at New Cross- only peak services provide that interchange to the East London Line.

Its nice to think the short branch line to Bromley North is still popular, I know it cant compare Brom south for passenger numbers, or services but I think I would still prefer to use the Bromley North Branch....bit more charm about it....wish they still had the peak direct services up to CX.

It's also handy when Bromley South is shut for engineering works, although I believe through passenger trains onto the branch are something of a rarity even then!

Longtime users of the line hark back to the days of a direct connection to Charing Cross. The journey was partially restored I believe when SET first put the 376s into service. I think the branch forms part of the speculative plans for extending the DLR or Bakerloo Line but these are only study proposals.

Think there was the possibility of this and one other Greater London branchline (could have been Greenford-West Ealing) being used for tram-trains as a trial down South not so long ago... it was in RAIL
