Broken Rails at Wimbledon?

Anyone know anything about this?

Lots of disruption on services on the SWT mainline heading into London as something about emergency engineering on broken rails on a line into Wimbledon. I may have heard wrong though.

All services from Salisbury were terminating at Basingstoke, and I believe Portsmouth services were terminating at Woking, with all passengers filtering slowly onto trains from Southampton at those two locations. Reason being to reduce trains going through Wimbledon.

I didnt hear about delays on outbound services though.

Broken rail season, especially with the sudden cold snap. The broken rail{s} are probably on the up roads, so down trains would be fine.

Stock arriving late into Waterloo meant that outgoing trains were delayed as well. (SWT don't seem to have got the hang of stepping back stock onto other diagrams).

My 1755 to Alton didn't depart until 1840, then we had extra stops added at Surbiton and all stations south of there, finally arriving at Ash Vale at 1945, 70mins late!

It would've actually been quicker for me to get the 1805 to Aldershot via Ascot, which arrived at Ash Vale at 1934.

Easier said than done.
Train maintenance is mileage based and sometimes diagrams are very tight for mileage. So the stock for one train might have 1,000 miles left on it's ticket, whilst the stock forming the same service 30 minutes later might have 100 miles left. The latter service might be diagrammed to do it's run and end up round the corner from a maintenance depot, then goto ECS to depot for an exam.
Before you say "Move it all round after hours" you have possessions and driver availability to contend with aswell.

You've driven me home like four/five times - it really isn't that much of a shock to me

Anyway, the post above was for Dan's benefit really. If he thought that your new patch was the Ash Vale line then he might never travel by train ever again. Now he knows that it's the Ash line (not Ash Vale), he knows he can travel safely to Alton/Woking/Waterloo.

It just means that he can no longer use the North Downs line north of Guildford (and I can therefore no longer use Farnborough North station ever again) or his train will definately derail and he will almost certainly be killed.

It's surely gonna feel weird for you not having a third rail to dodge all of the time anymore, isn't it? With the threat of electrocution now much less likely, I feel it's my duty to turn up to Sandhurst/Blackwater/Farnborough North/North Camp/Ash and throw some (empty, obviously) bottles of White Lightening at your gang from the platform. On days you are woking further away then you are safe as I'm lazy.
