Broken down train at Upper Warlingham

Hi

How is this train causing so many issues? It's been a mess.

Anyone have any info on the 'real' problem.

The 18:08 from London bridge had door issues i saw, is this train the issue?

One train - the 1808 off London Bridge [LBG], as you mention, IIRC - was terminated at Oxted [OXT] due to door problems. Staff were unable to resolve the issue. I'm not entirely sure what the issue at Upper Warlingham is, but it appears to be separate on JourneyCheck, but not on NRE or according to Southern.

I was at East Croydon when the problems began and there were certainly a number of trains delayed and, at that stage, were simply awaiting signal clearance whilst the fault was expected to have been being dealt with.

In addition to the advice on NRE, which I have posted below for forum users' convenience, I would strongly advise that if TOCs permit it, passengers should travel via Redhill if they require a service to Edenbridge. Services will have sufficient room to accommodate a decent number of additional passengers.

No trains between East Croydon and Oxted until further notice

A broken down train is causing disruption at Upper Warlingham.

Because of this, the following alterations will apply until further notice:

- Trains are currently unable to run between East Croydon and Oxted
- Buses are running between Purley and Oxted and between Three Bridges and East Grinstead
- Buses are running between Haywards Heath and Uckfield and between Buxted and Crowborough

There was another door fault on a recent evening service. The issue was resolved by some swift work involving circuit breakers, apparently, but this was not enough to prevent delays.

Was 2 issues on the line. The 1808 was 1 of the affected trains due to said door problem at Oxted, which blocked the down line.

Then later on another train failed on the up line at Upper Warlingham - no idea which service or what exactly happened though. I suspect down services were also suspended as they wouldnt have been stuck behind the failed train on the way up. Wouldnt surprise me if the brakes stuck on, we have had a few of them recently.

The usual procedure is to aux the unit off and back on to reboot MITRAC (takes about 2-3 mins) as with the majority of door faults on 377s it's a software problem, not a problem with the doors themselves. No real need to trip and reset MCBs (apart from the main circuit breaker which opens when the unit is auxed off and has to be reclosed manually -and sometimes gets forgotten about leaving the driver to wonder why (s)he can't take power even though (s)he's now got interlock).

In the particular case I mentioned, the circuit breakers were reset. How do I know? Well, I heard this from a passenger on board who happened to be interested and speak to the staff!

Services in both directions were indeed suspended after the Upper Warlingham incident, which is something I can neither confirm or deny was linked to a brake failure, simply because I do not know for certain!

the 379 fleet appears to still have a Bombardier fitter in attendance for coupling at Cambridge in the morning- clearly not very confident yet!
