wHAT an earth why ? The gunna have 4 platforms still , have the lymingtons, have all the nice things thru trains , SWT , omg they can't MAKE A PETITION SAVE BROCK! I should imagine that they will close 1 platform at a time - although I was told that the platforms have to be dug up and relaid plus all the drainage done because of leaky pipes. Still do-able I guess a bit like the way they've kept stations open when doing the station floodlights

I would expect that each island would close at a different time, northbound services would have to non-stop, but southbounds could use the Wareham shuttle platform....can't remember the number (I think 1?).

From December the XX39 ex-Waterloo will loop at Southampton then Brockenhurst. Will they use P1 (current Wareham) or use the ultra-rare P4 Down connection? The latter was used I think by the Eastleigh-Lymingtons and possibly by the pway people but that's it.

With the utmost urgency I would like to have Brockenhurst Station In Hampshire listed please.

Brockenhurst Railway Station is a fine example of a large country station and indeed the only one on the line between Weymouth and Waterloo. The building on the island platform is Art Deco style of red brick construction.

Of particular concern is the Luggage Traverser this is the only one of it’s kind left in the country. It’s loss would be very sad and irreplaceable. At the very least Network Rail should be ordered that it is found a good home on a preserved railway.

The bridge is of a particular fine example - again the only one of it’s kind between Waterloo and Weymouth - although at some point it has lost half of its corrugated roof which should be replaced.

I fully understand that the station has to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act but in doing so any alterations should be made to keep the original character of the station.

I’d like to see all the buildings, footbridge, luggage traverser and canopies preserved in their original condition please. Any further works such as lifts should be additional too and not in place of the existing structure. Also in a sympathetic design.

Though probably totally different structurally, the f'bridge at Eastleigh looks similar to Brockenhurst's one.

In fact, apart from the two middle lines & the curve, Eastleigh is just a bigger version of Brockenhurst.

It would be nice to get it listed , one of the most valued original SR things left! All the trains have gone except the lymingtons but now it seems NR or who ever is in charge is determind to go 'out with the old in with the new'

What you lot don't understand is that just because you can use the station without problems doesn't mean everyone can.
At the moment people with disabilties, pushchairs & young children,the old and people with a lot of luggage find it hard to use Brockenhurst because of access to the platforms.
With the local council trying to reduce the number of cars travelling through the New Forest it's important that Brockenhurst station is 'updated' to encourage visitors to use the train rather then drive.
This of cause will mean that parts of the station will go and the footbridge will need to go with it as it's unsafe and will be unusable even with lifts to each platform.
Sometimes you need to move forward rather then back.

Hi Chris! I've got a partly disabled son who copes with the footbridge. I have also seen in practice what happens when you have elderly/disabled passengers. It's easy enough to get them on and off the platforms: they have the staff, but if it's off / on P1/2 then they have to ensure that there are no trains due that could stop the use of the bridge...which is also used for the small shop and other loading. To get to P3/4a/4b is much easier and just needs a walk/puschair journey across the LC and back up under cover, then across the footcrossing .. there's a fixed red for P4a/b anyway.

I don't know if anything has been done about Southampton Airport Parkway but in the past it needed a taxi ride from one side of the station to the other.

Yep there is a workaround to using Brockenhurst but it's longwinded and not always feasable and certainly not quick.The footbridge is still a problem in it's very narrow and has steep steps, i have personally helped many elderly people over the footbridge over the years and a few of them were partly sighted.
Does the station need rebuilting, well probably not but the footbridge needs replacing.
Southampton Airport Parkway staff were told to allow passengers who could not use the footbridge to travel to Southampton Central, use the lifts and return on another service to Southampton Airport Parkway a few years back, not sure what the situation is now.
See from your posts that Swanwick used to be your local and in the 80s it was mine also.
Swanwick has improved for the best over the years, i remember travelling back late from Winchester having had to change at St Denys then walking miles back to Warsash because the Provincal bus service was pretty bad.

I used Swanwick 1985 - 2002 on and off. By the time that I used it the local MP had successfully arranged for it to be used by the Bournemouth-Victoria services via Hove, although I am still annoyred that so few DMUs stop there despite the fact that they used to have to stop at red signals in practice! Wessex Trains argued that the few moments' stop would inconvenience their pax too much.

I think at Parkway they use a taxi to get people round.

Brockenhurst Station is not getting Demolished, hopefully its going to get a easy user interface, i work at Brock as most of you know, the traverser is used almost every day, its heavy, awkward to move, and it denys people who have a right to use the railway, the right to use the railway when they like.
Take a close look a the traverser, the only genuine bit left is the cast wheel, the rest is old check plate, and bits of board!
If we do get lifts at Brockenhurst (if we are lucky enough) it will mean that not only disabled people, but elderley people, young mums with push chairs will a have proper acess to the station.
The sewers do not work at the station and have not for a lot of years, the roof leaks everywhere, most of the block guttering has no way of getting to it,(very bad design) the gutters and drainage channels block with leaves that are impossible to get to. We get a few leaves at Brock!
Its time we had decent buildings, and proper access at Brock.
If someone wants to build a traverser somewhere make it Safe,Light and easy to use, do not use the traverser at Brock as a template.

May have seen you then Ian! We use the station all the time from Ashurst, and also Il Palio 2 next door! I love the old mail box set into the wall. That's an antique in itself.

Also the traverser must surely be used by the kiosk? How else would they get their stock in?
