Britrail Pass questions

Hello Everyone.

As always I like to come on the forums and read the posts and I have not posted very often, infact the last time I posted was when I was thinking about buying a Season ticket from Weymouth to Ramsgate via Barnham and I had lots of nice advice, which was great.

Anyway the reason I have posted today is because I just wanted some clarification on some things. I know that in some aspects that the Britrail GB Pass is similar to the ALR except that the Britrail pass is cheaper, you get more days and even a discount in the winter months, but I know that the ALR has restrictions now regarding trains leaving London heading North in the mornings.

I just wondered, even though I can not see anything about in the Britrail terms, if those same rules applied.

I emailed Virgin customer service around two weeks ago, I had asked them if it was ok for me to use the Britrail pass on trains heading out of London at around 8am in the morning as I did not want to get on a train and suddenly be told it was not valid or something like that.

So after two weeks and no reply so I thought that perhaps you would be able to answer my question.

I live in Sweden, am an Englishman and had used the Britrail London Pass last year for a little while but thought I would buy a pass for next month because the GB Pass was so cheap for 8 days and even had a 20 percent low season discount and the fact that after reading about the Arriva Premier service, perhaps ending their onboard chef service, I wanted to try that out before it finishes. And also wanted to do some other services as well

The short answer is that no time restrictions apply to BritRail passes, only geographical ones depending on the pass you've chosen.

Yes that is what I thought, I purchased the GB one as it was only 308 euros for the 8 days First Class Pass, including insurance and delivery.

Edit: Just after I had written this reply, I had a reply from Virgin, (someone looking on these forums?) and they said it was ok, which I thought it was.

But is always good to have some kind of proof in case I come across someone who thinks otherwise, so that I can show them the email.

Yes, thats right-there are no restrictions at all, that make travel by train in the UK for us continentals so unbelievably complicated. Same applies to travel on Interrailtickets, if you would like to add travel in more countries. And go for 1st class: will also give you all the freebies like gratis Breakfasts on some IC-lines/times and lounge access.
My own question to add if is London Overground is (still) included-as its so interwoven with LU now.

Yes, London Overground are most definitely included, despite TfL's efforts to differentiate the brand from National Rail.

Also explicitly included are Heathrow Express services.
