Hello all!

I will go UK in July and will buy 2 First Class 22-day Britpasses, I have some questions to ask, hope you guys can help :)

First, I planned to take the Canedonian Sleeper Train from London to Inverness in early August, can I reserve the Canedonian Train First Class Berth with my First Class Britpass? If yes, how much would be the supplement and where can I do the reservation in London?

Second, If I want to try the HS1, can I do it for free with my First Class Britpass? Is that I have to issue the ticket from the reservation windows or I can walk on the train directly?

Third, can I use the Britpass on London Midland's Stourbridge Town route with Class 139?

Thanks very much for helping!!

Hello.. Welcome to the Forum..

In answer to your question about getting a berth on the sleeper train, yes you can obtain a berth with you 1st Class Pass on payment of £43.00, this is the sleeper supplment, best place to get this is LONDON EUSTON station.

In answer to your question about HS1, yes this is valid but a supplement may be payable not quite sure.

and finally yes your ticket is valid on the CLASS 139 at Stourbridge..

First class ticket holders can normally use HS1 domestic services without a supplement, so I presume the same applies to first class passes. Of course the trains don't actually have any first class accommodation.

I've done it on my ALR, but not quite sure what the terms are to a BritPass

As far as I know, Britrail is valid on ALL National services / lines (the only exceptions are privately owned trains and privately owned lines), that includes all the services / lines described above. HS1 and the Stourbridge lines are National Rail lines. (There is an exception for Heathrow Express; this operates on a privately owned line between the main line and the airport, this means that certain National Rail tickets are not valid on that line, however for Britrail holders you can get your pass validated for travel on Heathrow Express)

Sleeper berth supplements are available for £43, you only need the supplement as the ticket is valid on the train. This is for a single berth cabin. You are advised to make a reservation as soon as possible. Information on the sleeper is available here.

Hello all!

I will go UK in July and will buy 2 First Class 22-day Britpasses, I have some questions to ask, hope you guys can help :)

I trust you will buy your BritRail passes before you come to the UK - they are not available from within the UK (IIRC).

First, I planned to take the Canedonian Sleeper Train from London to Inverness in early August, can I reserve the Canedonian Train First Class Berth with my First Class Britpass? If yes, how much would be the supplement and where can I do the reservation in London?

Yes, you can do this from any staffed station or before you arrive on ScotRail's telesales number +44 1752 675670 or probably email to scotrailcustomer.relations@firstgroup.com. I think it's £54 for single occupancy, £38 sharing. (edit: what yorkie and sonic said!)

Second, If I want to try the HS1, can I do it for free with my First Class Britpass? Is that I have to issue the ticket from the reservation windows or I can walk on the train directly?

HS1 services (except Eurostar!) are just regular commuter trains, so your pass will be valid. You won't need any special ticket, just get on the train!

Third, can I use the Britpass on London Midland's Stourbridge Town route with Class 139?

Thanks very much for helping!!

Yes again! This is just a normal, if very short, train (sort of!) service.

Enjoy your travel! If you're happy to share your plans for routes then us lot are usually quite nosey! (And will probably try and persuade you of the merits of our favourite lines!)

As above, £54
You should be able to book and pay for the berth now, and I would recommend arranging this, even though you do not have the ticket
Simply explain it is BritRail First Class

Ask FSR to email you the ticket, which you can then print
Print both the email and the attachment, take them with you

If they refuse, due to not having your ticket, then once you have your ticket apply again
If this is still refused, then make the reservation as soon as you can at London Euston

Just a small point. It's the Caledonian Sleeper. From Caledonia the latin for Scotland. Spectatular scenery enroute. I was going to specify but anywhere north of Lancaster is scenic - mind some will be in the dark. you can put your lights off & open the blinds though. I like passing though the Cumbrian Fells with a full moon above and the feeling like the whole world's asleep bar you,

Enjoy.
