British Rail uniforms from 1970 onwards

I have been trying without much success to find a good source which outlines BR uniforms from around 1970 onwards. Would anyone know if there is either an online resource or definitive book which outlines what was worn when and explain the various markings on the uniforms, ideally with illustrations?

There is some information, including pictures and a few diagrams, in Brian Haresnape's book "British Rail 1948-78 - A Journey by Design", published in 1979 by Ian Allan, ISBN 0 7110 0982 1. Not comprehensive, but will give you some idea of things.

Many of the preserved/heritage railways and rail centres have second hand stands which sometimes do sell items of BR clothing/uniforms.

If you can get to the National Archives at Kew, you may find some material in the vast selection of British Rail records (or "Records created or inherited by the British Transport Commission, the British Railways Board, and related bodies", to give it its full title!). This is labelled as section AN.

That's great. Sadly Kew isn't exactly handy for me. I'm away from t'internet for a few weeks from tomorrow so may not get a chance to look at these links properly. If I see anything that's useful, I'll let you know, though I'll have missed your possible visit next week.
