British Rail Blue / Grey Livery Farewell Revival

With their replacement approaching one train unit each from three fleets of trains built by British Rail in the 1970's and 1980's - Classes 313, 507, 455 - were repainted in their original blue / grey livery, albeit with contrasting colour doors so as to comply with present-day door visibility regulations.

This film shows these three trains - 313 201, 507 001, and 455 868 - plus some of the liveries these trains wore during their working life.

Also seen is 313 201 whilst it was numbered 313 101 and 313 001 !!!

Some of the Class 455 views also include a Class 508 trailer, however the train unit that was repainted in heritage blue / grey livery comprises solely Class 455 carriages.

I certainly remember seeing and travelling on the 313s and 455s when they originally wore BR blue-grey.
I wonder if the 442 Wessex units would've carried blue-grey as well as HSTs did?

Going back a few years farther, their direct "daddy", the PEP prototype units: set 4001 was painted in all over blue, which looks strange on an EMU of that style

I think one PEP prototype was plain blue and the other one was striped - somewhat like the Network SouthEast livery.

RE: the 442's, unless the 'fictitious liveries' people paint a 442 in Blue / Grey, we will never know.

Nice film - miss those compressor sounds once so ubiquitous on the former Southern Region...
Thanks - yes nowadays the trains sound very different

4-car units 4001 and 4002 started out in all over monastral blue. 2-car unit 2001 had unpainted aluminium bodysides.

4002 later acquired bodyside stripes, upswept behind the cabs. I took a photo of it dumped at Clapham Junction.

Thanks for that info. I have a photo of 4002 with the stripes at Wimbledon depot and will be using it in one of my YouTubes in the next few months.
