Its probably the first time a BR Britannia Class 7MT, this case 70013 "Oliver Cromwell", has been up this route, Horsham, Dorking, Leatherhead, Epsom, Cheam and on its way to Canterbury. It nearly didn't happen with last minute changes to overcome gauging issues, but I scouted out the best spot - uphill, a whistle board, a tunnel, nice backdrop, but it turned into a damp squib on a damp day, the class 47 on the back sharing the work. Pity - This was the Steam Dreams, Cathedrals Express Horsham to Canterbury.

I think you are right - first visit of a Britannia, but not the first BR Standard Pacific. A few years ago I photographed 71000 Duke of Gloucester at Epsom southbound. I must dig the picture up and scan it in sometime.
