Britains best preserved class 20

Just out of intrest,which railway do you think has the best preserved class 20. The only reason i ask is because im in the process of building,a ride on minutare class 20 and i could do with going and taking some close up photos.

Any help would be much appreciated

Personal bias would make me say D8098 at the GCR, but I would also recommend 20048 at MRC, the C20LG locos and 20118. I have no idea how 20166 is these days - but when it was at Bodmin it has a complete monster.

Neither 20118 or 20166 are preserved any more, both have been disposed to a railway business.

Thanks for the useful info its really exterior condition,as i need to take some close up photos of Body panel doors,bogies,etc the livery doesent really matter.from a painting point of view it would be eaiser to do br blue than railfreight red stripe

20154 is probably the most authentic looking class 20 in workstained green.

What about the NRM 20, that looks stunning when it decides to stretch it's legs at Diesel Gala's. Also the 20 at GWR looks & sounds great.

Not too far to travel, the KWVR have a Class 20 in very good nick. 20031 is one of their resident locomotives, although you might be best to contact them to find out when it is running as they mostly use their steam fleet.



On a connected topic, does anyone know if the 20s ever really carried this Trainload Coal livery, I don't recall ever seeing a picture of them in these colours.

20088 was the only one to receive two tone grey under British Rail ownership although 20096 / 901 / 905 have run on the main line in this livery under HNRC ownership. I don't think any of them had coal sub sector markings

If it's blue you're after Matt, I would have to go with 20110.
