Never gonna happen. Labour just want to make themselves look good.

Same old story, the opposition promise the Earth when trying to get elected and when they do it vanishes into the ether

Isn't one definiton of a review a look back at the past? Don't they know what they did in the last 15 years? Or are they keen to remind us about their botched policies?

I hope it continues the fantastic work of Lord Adonis.

If they have changed party line on HS2 just to go against the Tories, I won't be impressed.

Come on Labour - your chance to get lots of support............

Pretty sure the current gov't have done more for actual transport projects which will make a difference for people than Labour did over 12 and a bit years.

At the side of the current shower of an embarrassment of a government, even Labour look good.

I'm sorry, but do you even remember the last Labour governments? They bankrupted us and they were involved in two illegal wars. And that's before you even consider Gordon Brown's unique approach to leadership.

Would be nice if they could actually commit to anything and keep their promise. For example, they promised that Alex Salmond would attend a Scottish Leaders Debate last weekend - the promise was made some months in advance. He then pulled out a few days before, his replacement was not even a Cabinet Secretary but a Junior Minister. Some commitment to young people they have<(

They had 13 years in power and did very little to right the wrongs of the Current Franchise System , created the monster called Network Rail and did nothing for Buses outside of London. An apology would be nice first but I'll be pushing daisies before I ever hear one from a politician!

One does wonder if we'd be seeing GWML electrification at all were it not for the last couple of years of the New Labour government. Do you really think the Tories would have announced it as a new scheme in the period since last May?

I'm not particularly promoting Labour here, I should make clear - for most of their tenure they were pretty poor when it came to transport.

Hear, hear! Looking back from where we are now, New Labour were a massive disappointment. But people were wondering if the Tories would ever be electable again after 1997, so sooner or later there will come a time when Labour are back in power as sure as eggs is eggs!

I'm not so sure about the Lib Dems ever achieving any sort of power again though!

Be fair, Labour are very good at finding money to back their spending.

Just do not ask them to worry about how they found it ;)

Yeah, they got a letter in the post offering a good loan - at 7000%* APR - but they've figured that they just get another loan and pay back the first with the second.. so it's all good!! Just keep doing that for a few years and hope you can keep borrowing more...

Better Connected? Trying to make people think it's in some way connected with O2?

* I have of course exaggerated with the 7000% APR example. Labour would of course never have managed to get such a competitive rate.

Surely some mistake, they are currently power sharing with the Tories are they not? Or is that just in the mind of Nick Clegg?;)

I do wonder whether the votes will be more evenly split between Tories and Lib Dems in the next election, which could then hand victory to Labour.

In fact, given our short memories, the tough time we're having now won't be remembered as trying to pay off our inheritied debts, it will be the typical Tories cutting everything 'as they do' and we need Labour back to boost up the spending. Labour must have known they'd lose, and were probably quite happy to not have to deal with the problem they created. Sit out for five years and come back bigger and stronger.

I really do think people don't know where a Government gets its money from.

I meant after the curent coalition comes to an end. Mind you, it's already lasted longer than I thought it would!

There is a distinct possibility that the LD vote will fall, or even collapse, at the enxt election, as they have alienated a lot of their core support. it remains to be seen whether their loyalty will hold up!

Also Salmond for years said he would regulate buses. Has that happened yet?

Does Souter donating money to the SNP have any relevance?

Disclaimer - I thought you were a Labour man...

I believe in 1996 Labour said they would bring about the return of British Rail... what a load of bullsh*tters

Every party makes claims about what they will or won't do if they get elected. A lot fo the claims are then quietly 'forgotten' when thay are actually in power!

I'm confused by the image on the cover-page.

Labour seem to have disowned the Shetland and Orkney Islands, yet have included the Isle of Man in their "Transport Review".

I always get a bit confused on this one too, isn't

"Britain" - England, Scotland and the Principality of Wales?
"UK" - England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Principality of Wales?

Would have been sensible if they'd just used a map of Great Britain as that is likely to be the extent of their transport policies. The Northern Ireland transport network is very different. It should also be noted that including a quarter of the island of Ireland and colouring it with a British flag is quite offensive to Irish nationalists and something I would not expect the Labour party to be doing.

Unless their policy will include ideas for any future devolved administrations (eg, should Labour win the 2011 Scottish and Welsh elections), then I'd argue that even Scotland and Wales could be largely excluded, given that transport is largely devolved in these nations. And the person who designed that horrific image clearly has never been to Northern Ireland or Scotland, and nor do they understand that concept of a "crown dependency". Anyway, I digress...

TBH, I'll be interested to see what happens. It's always worthwhile seeing what they have to say. And some time spent on the opposition benches, and having a new shadow minister, could actually breed some good ideas (and perhaps some not-quite-as-good ones too). We shall see on Monday.

You don't have to vote them in again if they don't do what they say they are going to. There are more than two parties.
