Hello all,

Where are these sidings in particular? I notice on RTT there are a couple of FCC E.C.S turns to/from Brighton going to or coming from Brighton S.S? There is a location Preston Park Sidings so it can't be from there, but somewhere in Lovers Walk I take it, and some siding that would at least hold a triple 377 set.

I've never really seen an FCC unit stabled there, either as I don't pay attention or because it's a Weekend.

Any help appreciated :)

James.

Ah is that the two sidings by the Down Main, opposite side to Lovers Walk, and just past where the Marshlink route splits off?

The sidings by Dyke Road Drive bridge? I remember seeing contractors swarming there the last time I crossed it, so possibly?

Oh, it's the East Coastway. Marshlink is Ashford - Hastings - they'd be very long sidings! :p

Down siding 1, nearest to Down main, is 500m long (24 carriages in length, but I seem to remember only 20 carriages permitted) and down siding 2 is 250m (12 carriages). They have CET facilities at the south end of down siding 1 and a CWM too.

Some photos taken on 29th Dec last year (hopefully these upload correctly!)...

Taken from the Dyke Road Drive overbridge. The one where the sky appears white looks north towards the Cliftonville Curve.

Down Main siding No1 will take 2x12 car and is signalled as such and Down Main siding No2 will take 1x12 car.

Thanks for clearing that up, not sure why I thought only 20 carriages were permitted!

Unless there are some temporary stop marks, the sidings are designed for the new class 700s. No1 siding is 2x8, 2x12 or 1x8+1x12 or vice versa and No2 1x8 or 1x12. All 8 car trains have a stop mark 4 coaches from the buffer stops so you can't even get 3x8 car 700 into DM No1 siding. We are not allowed to permissively work the sidings. There are three 12 car track circuits in the sidings and if any of the Brighton end track circuits are occupied then no other train is allowed to enter the sidings.

Confused it with the temp 20 car length of the new Cricklewood north sidings (that will be 24 cars in the end)?

Whoops, yes East Coastway sorry

I remember now those two being built, I guess that's why some FCC services are using them since the 700's will be on the thameslink's too.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

The new Down Yard is required for the London Bridge block to allow extra units to be berthed on the BML. Prior to last week there was Preston Park (shared with Southern) 12 cars x 2, so this increased space is better for everyone as it allows a lot more units to be berth especially in disruption.
