Hi does anyone know what's happening on the Brighton mainline this evening? My friends train is at a standstill, apparently someone's been hit by a train (thoughts with his family) can anyone confirm this?

A person has been hit by a train near Brighton and this means that trains between Brighton and Haywards Heath / Lewes are currently at stand and are expected to be delayed by up to 60 minutes.

****Brighton mainline will open in the next 10 minutes***

Sadly, Southern's Twitter confirms you're right. My thoughts to the person's family and staff involved.

Person hit by a train at London Road, Brighton.
Unfortunately, the extent of the traction current isolation initially resulted in it being taken off as far back as Preston Park, until the Network Rail Mobile Operations Manager could get on site to operate hookswitches, to allow the mainline to be recharged / reopened.

I thought at first that the Argus journalist has sourced the quotes from Twitter as "breaking" was used instead of "braking", but I couldn't find them there.
