I do a lot of cycling and love riding along disused railway lines.

Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed that someone has been busy along the old St Albans to Hatfield line at Nash Hyde Halt. The platform has been cleared of ivy and a copy of a distance signal put up with 2015 on it.

Have other disused railway stations the country been brightened up?
Wheathamsted and Swanbourne spring to mind in my little area. :D

It's always nice to see a disused station well kept. Generally, the best thing is to have it used and cared for by someone.

The most extreme example I've seen of this is probably Brookland on the New Romney branch (building disposed of in the 30's, station closed in 1967) but the building appears to have been doubled in size in the last ten years.

The tidying-up at Nast Hyde station is part of the forthcoming celebrations in October this year of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Hatfield-St Albans branch. I haven't yet seen the full programme, but there will be events at each station site along the line. I and colleagues from St Albans South signal box will be doing something at London Road station; Smallford will also be busy as the group hoping to restore the station building, hidden in the adjacent works yard, will be in attendance there. Date to be confirmed but I think it's Saturday Oct 24th.
