Brief Encounters - which station?

I wonder if anyone knows which station was used in the ITV drama "Brief Encounters" which was on ITV1 for the past few weeks?

May well have been a heritage line but not 100% sure.

The station shots for the original movie were made at Carnforth I believe. Dunno about this modern version tho'.

1st version Carnforth correct.

Then a remake was done in the 1970s with Richard Burton and I think that was done in Brockenhurst.

Yes this is Brief Encounters, as you say in the plural, and a completely different thing to Brief Encounter. It is a play on words 'brief' in this case referring to sexy underwear as it was set in Sheffield in the 70's when Anne Summers started up.

Not as seedy as it sounds and the wife and I really enjoyed it

You have to take those lists with a pinch of salt as they appear to be filled in by members of the public. The (rubbish) film Three & Out which is about an Underground driver who wants to get three suicides in order to have a large payoff so he can retire has a scene at "Liverpool station" which is clearly London Marylebone with a cardboard sign up in the excess fares booth is cited as being shot in Liverpool on IMDB.

I don't know about "Brief Encounters" but Brief Encounter was filmed at Carnforth.

Oh, I don't think anyone would be interested in us now. I'm pleased to say we are very happy and that I have just started my 53rd year in the Railway Industry - I prefer Railway Family - with no short term retirement plans. Long term I will be off to Spain for my retirement.

Tio is Spanish for Uncle!

There is a story about a couple of Spanish beverages.

A young couple who were running a Bodega had new drinks to bring to the market but lacked the funds to do so. They approached their Uncle who agreed to fund them. In return they named the drinks after them. Tio Pepe (Uncle Peter) and Tia Maria (Aunty Maria). From there they have gone on from strength to strength.

In Spain Rosemary is known as Tia Maria Rosa!

Pedant alert...

"Pepe" is actually the pet form of "Jose", so "Tio Pepe" would approximate to "Uncle Joe". Strange, but true.

as mentioned, Carnforth station one was the one in the old movie.. i only chime in as i was up there a few weeks back and was impressed, they have a decent part of the station turned into a kind of 'olde-worlde' railway museum, very authentic. The damn big clock featured in the movie is still there. it looks heavy.

Incredibly, in Carnforth station, there is a tiny (about a dozen seats) cinema, or viewing area where you can watch the original Brief Encounter movie whenever you want .. it had a few folks sat watching the movie, it's slightly hidden off the side of the shop, which has a selection of rail / retro type goodies and fudge / fridge magnets / coasters etc, all staffed by (when we were there) some absolutely lovely retired folks who were so wonderful they felt almost like friends, very interesting, lots of rail stories, and were genuinely interested in you and what you were interesed in, which i found humbling and wonderful and quite unusual this day and age.

Highly recommended !

when in Carnforth forget the film showings, far better to go to "The Snug" - the real ale micropub within the station.
