Looks like a train has failed at Bridgend this evening, causing major disruption west of Cardiff...

Even worse, access to the VoG diversion line is restricted due to speed restrictions over defective track down the line.

Image shows the signalling map around Cardiff West, with a BLOK at Grangetown.

Are we talking about the two trains marked **** on the signal map?

There was a freight went through Bridgend 264 late, I was assuming at first that might be a sign movement was possible.

Cardiff Central was certainly a bit chaotic today, what with all the delays this event caused, plus a points failure affecting trains through Queen Street.

Is it still ongoing?

Any idea why they have 2F20 occupying the platform at Bridgend?

2F20 in Platform 1 at Bridgend and then 1B21 (17:40 ex CDF) and 1B24 (18:42 ex CDF) GWR at the two signals just outside Bridgend.

I hope at some point someone will be able to say what happened. That was a long delay, including a seemingly large gap between the first trains moving from the East into Bridgend station, anything being sent from Cardiff and then 2F20 finally clearing the platform for the Swansea trains stuck behind.

My 19:30 from Manchester was cancelled, presumably as a consequence of this incident, although RTT had a set swap planned at Cardiff to a 175/1 from the 2 x 153 which had done the Milford Haven to Cardiff part of the inward working.

1V40 got to Bridgend at 1520. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:W26525/2023-06-14/detailed

The failed unit was moved as this in the end after being sent up the Maesteg line to get out of the way https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:68740/2023-06-14/detailed, the only available rescue unit intended was 2 trains behind the failure with a freight in the way. There was a buckled rail in the mix at Grangetown which was on the route of the rescue train indeed and then that train also had issues.
