Bridge Hit at Bramley (West Yorkshire)

I'm on the York-Blackpool service, and we've been stopped just after leaving Leeds station.

Guard has told us that Network Rail have stopped all trains so they can inspect the bridge.

Now moving at 5mph; guard says it's so we can "inspect the line as we go", which is quite unlikely - especially in the dark!

Looks like they are only permitting one train at a time to be on the bridge just west of Bramley station.

Looks like they are only permitting one train at a time to be on the bridge just west of Bramley station.

Quite likely that if you're train was immediately in the vicinity of the bridge the driver would be asked to examine the line whilst passing over the bridge at reduced speed.

There are special instructions applied to bridges (dependent on which category they fall into out of red, amber or double amber). The local NR Mobile Ops Manager and a bridge examiner will also be summoned and they have the final say regarding the bridge's condition. Most of the 'bashes' I've known of result in superficial damage and the MOM will generally be able to to authorise linespeed.
