**Breaking news - LM have an Oyster Reader!**

Over the last week or so, there've been security bods at the bottom of the stairs to Platform 6 checking tickets during the morning rush. Rather the usual "wave an oyster card at an LM employee" they have a hand held reader to check what you have on your ticket! If they see you tap in then they don't ask you to scan.

Speaking to a guard a while back he said that his union agreed that LM employees wouldn't have to carry oyster readers, so I wonder if this is LM's way around that restriction?

It's very exciting. I was starting to wonder what the point of buying a season ticket was when there were no checks at either end, or in the middle either.

Now all they need to do is put in some more readers at the top of Platform 7, and stop the Virgin people closing the doors on us as we're trying to exit and all will be good

Probably should have mentioned that - Platform 6 @ Bushey (which has no barriers) and Platform 7 @ Euston (no barriers as well).

My brain does like to leave out vital bits of informations...

Why shouldn't LM employees carry and use Oyster readers? In terms of revenue protection on the relevant route isn't that a bit ridiculous?

Who knows? But on the trains out of Euston, should your ticket be checked all you had to do was wave an Oyster Card at them and say you were getting off either at Watford Junction or before, and you were golden.

I've never seen a ticket check on an LM train going into London happen past Watford Junction.

I use those trains frequently and have never had a ticket check before Watford (and only once after)

Tickets are done more frequently on those that don't stop at Harrow or Bushey

I was on a mid-afternoon Tring to Euston all stations a week last Sunday. Two RPIs got on at Berkhamsted and stayed on all the way to Euston, checking tickets after every station (even Harrow) and one of them had an Oyster reader.

I think they made quite a bit of money on Penalty Fares too. Good.

At Euston they have ticket barriers for platforms 8 to 11 and signs in the Underground point London Midland and Overground passengers alone a passage to these platforms. It's a good short cut.

However a reasonable number of London Midland trains actuality depart from other platforms and on those I never had anyone check my ticket in the 2 years I regularly travelled through Euston.

It was like they only trusted you if you didn't use platforms 8 to 11. Clearly that wasn't the case but it certainly felt like it.
