Been checking advance fares for late March. My destination is about 180 miles away, and the cheapest Advance single (in each direction) is £13.
I wanted to break my journey (for around an hour) on the outward trip only approximately 35 miles short of my final destination.
Advance fare to the intermediate destination is £10.50 - pretty good. But then I checked the Advance fare for the trip from intermediate destination to final destination - £10.50. Total £21
Is paying an extra £8 the only permissible way to break the outward journey?

I wonder how long I can make my location on this f
I would imagine so. If you could just break your journey by split ticketing for the same price then what would be the point in restricting a break in journey in the first place? The ticket does not include the privilege of breaking your journey so you will pay a premium for the ability to do so.

You aren't allowed to break your journey on advance tickets, but if you can tell us where you're travelling from and to and what date and time, someone may be able to come up with a cheaper option by splitting or buying beyond your destination on more flexible tickets.

As I don't know what the journey is, it's difficult to advise.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you plan to do for the hour and do you need to break your journey there? Is there a return journey?
