Bratislava Loco Hauled

Good afternoon all,

I'll be travelling to Bratislava in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone knew the best turns to find some interesting loco hauled workings?

AFAIK there isn't any diesel locos to enjoy in those parts now that the line to Vienna is being wired but would welcome any insight. I'll be picking up the all zones 24 hour ticket for the Bratislava region but if there is any particularly interesting moves slightly further afield then I'd happily pay for a piece to make moves.

Loads of loco haulage around Bratislava, it's a bit of a case of take your pick. Still some class 350 diagrams I believe and diesel turns on Prievidza trains from Nove Mesto Station, not sure where first stop is and if it would be inside 24 hour ticket zones. Also run by 757s, which are very quiet; traction motors noisier than the diesel engine!
There's a bus stop move from main station to Vinohrady Station, about a 5 minute run that goes past the depot, if interested in seeing that? Can virtually do runs between the two stations all day on loco hauled trains but may get a bit tedious!
Great little cake shop/bar towards end of platform one that comes highly recommended!!!

Looks like you can get to Trnava, Galanta and Kúty with the maximum amount of zones:

Trnava is a stop on the 757 turns, so that'd work. Refer to the link below for timings (everything R7xx):

They do also stop at Bratislava-Predmestie if you just want to tick one off (three min journey).

How far would I need to travel from Bratislava to get a grumpy or anything else with a little grunt to it? Are there any mad peak time turns that produce weird and wonderfuls?

For a Grumpy need to go to Prague if want it on passenger. Have seen them on freight in Zilina but that was a few years ago, now.

A shame that it's so far away. We are flying into Vienna and headed to Bratislava from there. Had also looked at going via Hungary but didn't fancy going quite as far as Budapest to get over the Danube.

We'll manage I'm sure - still going to be better than the units we have here in the UK!

If you want to go to Hungary, then you could go via Hegyeshalom and Rajka?

That was an option on our cards, but my research suggested it was a unit from Hegyesshalom which would be less than ideal.

As it stands, we're going to take a Eurocity from Vienna to Břeclav then another Eurocity to Kúty where our 24 hour ticket would kick in and we'd jump on a local lok there.

Okay, watch out as I think the Kúty local train can sometimes be a unit.

Just thought sometimes a grumpy at Devinska Nova Ves, used as a shunter, I believe, and seen it working occasionally. Only a short hop from Bratislava so may be worth a look?

Yes there’ll be a grumpy at DNV, used for shuttling car trains to and from the Volkswagen factory along the branchline.

That's the trip been completed - thank you to all who helped out with insight.

We managed several 362 moves and a couple of 350s as well. We also done the 757 move to Trnava but worth noting to anyone who does a trip like this in future, the 24 hour IDS BK ticket does not permit travel on these services. The only rail services permitted are OS and REX. We got chung the disastrous sum of €2.40 each! Devastating.

Anyway, a nice time out all the same.
