Braintree Season Ticket

Hi All

Wonder if you guys can answer a question for me.

A colleague of mine has lives in Goodmayes/Seven Kings but spends a lot of time in Braintree staying with his GF. He commutes to London Liverpool St.

He has been toying with the idea of getting some sort of season ticket from Braintree as at the moment he is buying dailies.

The question is if he buys a season from Braintree>Liverpool St can he then use it if he starts his journey from Goodmayes or Seven Kings.

He has tweeted AGA with the question but they haven't yet answered him

Yes, definitely. A season is valid for any intermediate journeys along its permitted routes. Goodmayes is on the permitted route from Braintree to London.

Thank you for such a speedy reply, he was worried that you couldn't because although the Braintree train speeds through Goodmayes doesn't physically stop there

Depends on how often he travels to Braintree, he might be better off buying a season ticket from Goodmayes/Seven Kings to Liverpool Street, and separate Goodmayes/Seven Kings - Braintree singles/returns. The train does not need to stop at the ticket changeover point if one is a season and the other not.

That is worth considering, thanks bb21...at the moment he was thinking a Braintree - Liverpool St season and plenty of PAYG on his Oyster as he also has the option of bussing it to Newbury Park to pick up the Tube when he is in Seven Kings. He is staying in Braintree around three nights a week at present

TBH, anything has got to be cheaper than what he is doing at the moment which is daily singles all over the place, hasn't it?

So long as one ticket is a season ticket or period Travelcard and the other is not he can combine the tickets on a non-stop train.

A Braintree Travelcard is £129.60 a week, a season Braintree to London Terminals £105. A Seven Kings-Liverpool Street season is £31 a week, Z1-4 Travelcard is £46 a week and an anytime Braintree-Boundary Zone 4/Seven Kings ticket is £29 a day.

Doing the maths, a Goodmayes–London ticket plus Day Returns from Braintree is cheaper if he’s in Braintree only once or twice a week (£60 or £89 for NR travel only, £75 or £104 including travel on the tube etc.); in weeks where he’s in Braintree at least thrice, he’d be better off with the Braintree–London tickets for £105 or £129.60.
