Are you sure you are comparing the same type of tickets? A Bradford FSQ to Colne SVR (off peak return) is £26.50 (I assume this is the ticket you are referring to). Whilst a Bradford FSQ to Blackpool N SVR is £33.70 and a Bradford FSQ to Preston SVR is also £26.50.

Because the £26.50 Bradford to Colne Off-Peak Return (SVR) is route "Any Permitted" and is valid via Manchester.

The £17.50 Bradford - Preston Anytime Return (SOR) and the £21.80 Bradford - Blackpool SOR are route "Burnley". Unfortunately there is no Bradford - Colne route "Halifax" or route "Burnley" fare.

The £17.20 Leeds - Colne route "Halifax" SOR can be used instead as a Bradford to Colne return ticket. There may (or may not) be cheaper options involving splitting.

Bradford - Preston is coming in at £15.70 and Bradford - Blackpool is coming in at £20 mate.

It's my elderly mothers birthday next Thursday and she fancies a trip to the new Boundary Mills complex as part of her celebrations.

£26.50 x2 = £53 is too expensive IMO for this journey.

I've tried splitting with a Bradford - Burnley Stations ticket but that would mean either a taxi or bus from Manchester Road station to either of the other two on the Blackpool South-Colne line.

As I said you're not comparing like for like. Those fares are an off-peak day return and an anytime day return whilst the £26.50 (the Bradford - Colne ticket in your OP) is an off-peak return (return portion valid for a month). As John @ Home said those fare are also routed via Burnley rather than any permitted route.

It seems strange that with Bradford being closer than Leeds to Colne they pay less.

As I said you're not comparing like for like. Those fares are off-peak day return and an anytime day return whilst the £26.50 is an off-peak return (return portion valid for a month). As John @ Home said those fare are also routed via Burnley rather than any permitted route.

It does seem strange to not offer a off-peak day return from Bradford to Colne, but offer one from Leeds.

Yes it is rather, they offer an Anytime day single, Off-peak return and an Anytime return and that's it for BDI - Colne! If you wanted to query this further you would have to talk to TPE as they price this flow.

Have you tried travelling via Skipton and then getting a bus over to Colne from Skipton (every 30 minutes). The bus should call via the train station and roll over to Colne and beyond. Get off at Colne Bus Station and I think there is a bus that rolls round visiting Boundary Mills.

You are looking at a fairly long trip by train with a nearly one hour wait at Accrington on the way there

The Pendle Green Bus is operated by Tyrer who do not appear to have a website. The bus runs hourly calling at the bus station and at the door of Boundary Mill.

Yep it's an anytime day return and therefore has no restrictions on it's use (other than it's only valid for the one day).

Cheers for the information regarding the buses mate, I did give this serious thought but I think it's going to be the train over the bus for the fact that they have toilets if mum needs to go.

She doesn't possess a senior railcard although for her annual trip to Cleethorpes over the festive period I should consider purchasing one for her.

You should consider picking up the forms as soon as you can. It can make a real difference. See if Club55 makes a difference for her travel if she is doing jaunts like Cleethorpes. Whilst we are in the Northern area, we have several beneficial links into First franchises and ATW.

It is the lack of toilets that knocks buses back a bit.

Northen do 'Duo tickets' if there is two traveling don't they, you should look if further savings can be made using these.

In addition, if your mum holds a West Yorkshire Concessionary Travel Pass, she can use this to travel by train Bradford Interchange - Hebden Bridge for £0.50 single or £1.00 day return (after 0930 Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and bank holidays).
