Yes, a bit silly I know - but very curious as to a) how much this cost b) how they managed to fit this into the normal timetable c) how long it took as it was essentially non-stop to glasgow (a rarity these days).

see http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2026479/Angelina-Jolie-Brad-Pitt-charter-entire-train-London-Glasgow.html

They've been more than happy to mingle with the general public at the theatre and while out shopping.
But Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie decided that their family's five hour journey to Scotland should be done away from prying eyes and autograph hunters.
And they clearly decided that taking over a first class carriage wasn't going to be enough for their brood - so they chartered the entire train instead.

I doubt they'd have commandeered a whole 390, it'd likely have been a 'spare' 221 freed up by putting a 390 on a Birmingham - Scotland; WB64 would have pathing issues north of Preston so I doubt it would have been that.

Here you go. I don't know much about Virgins, though.

Or the trains!

Hah.

That is... incredible! But wonderful at the same time that a train can still be chartered like that. I know Virgin have been advertising such things for a while on their website but this is the first time I've seen an individual charter such a thing as opposed to a football special or similar.

Maybe this will see the start of a 'copycat' series of well-heeled celebrities turning to the rails as an alternative means of private chartered transport.

FYI - An 18 person Jetstream chartered plane costs £10,000 per hour to hire (I know this because I once enquired). I would imagine this Pendolino would be significantly more.

At a guess, I'd say £50,000minimum, but I could be completely wrong, and as the article states - they're not giving away the price, and we're not going to find out easily.

:D:D:D

Anyone have more info? Platform it left Euston? Routing? Northampton? Trent Valley? Stetchford? Was it really non-stop all the way? Did it get held up anywhere? What was the headcode? Etc?

It appears Brad followed some Premiership teams and took advantage of the Virgin private rail charter service to take Jolie and his family from London to Glasgow for the 5 hr trek. No doubt discrete entrance/exits at Euston/Glasgow Central. Wonder if he travelled on a Pendo, Pretendo or Voyager?

So do the premiership football teams such as Man United charted a whole train then-thought it was just 1 or 2 1st class carriages-they wouldn't need more than 50 seats.

Can I just say why didnt they fly?
In this case a private jet would have had lower emmissions than the train they chartered.

Ran as 1T95 and was returned ECS as 5M95 formed of 390041. Filming took place onboard in connection with a film he is in. Parts of Glasgow were dressed to look like Philadelphia.

Since when did carbon emissions become the primary concern for any sane person when picking which method of transport to use?

Perhaps it's just an image thing. Be seen to be green?

I also wondered why they did not take a private jet or helicopter.

Most likely because Richard Branson would have given them the train for next to nothing to get some PR for Virgin trains

Any timings available for this? Has the makings of a good Railworks scenario. :D

Probably subject to some film tax breaks then, or certainly paid for by the studio.

Quite. In fact, it seems to make a lot sense- move cast and crew a few hundred miles to location they were going to anyway AND get scenes filmed in one conveniant move.
