BR Departmental Coaches

I have some questions about BR Departmental coaches during the late 70s and 80s

What colours did they operate in?

What coaches did they use?

What were they used for.

The ones I saw in the late eighties/early nineties (up until quite recently) on the Southern were mainly converted SUB units in all over Corperate Blue itself pretty rare by this time. I think a lot of these were converted in the late 70's and early eighties. Before then, would have been even older converted stock eg BIL's and HAL's etc.

Talking of SUBs, quite a few SUB carriages have only just been withdrawn along with some other full 2EPB sets (Departmental 977xxx), the last livery to be carried on the SUB carriages (And some full sets?) was Railtrack livery.

I have been watching a SR DVD and in Jaunuary 1990, a full Class 405 SUB livery in BR blue (or corperate blue) was sitting in the sidings at Dover rotting away, what a shame!

It's a shame the SUB's never made it to the NSE era. They'd have carried toothpaste livery well

I sometimes imagine what it would have been like to have been a very accomplished rock star in the early nineties. I'd have a shed full of slammers instead of Rolls Royces

Last ones were withdrawn in 1982, so they had only just made it into the Jaffa era, but as they were to be withdrawn it would of been a waste of money, although NSE would of looked very good on 4SUBs (And on any Multiple unit!).

If I had been a succesful rock star in 1980s,I would have the lot, EPBs, CEPs, VEPs, CIGs, SUBs, BILs, NOLs the lot all in NSE!
