The ones I saw in the late eighties/early nineties (up until quite recently) on the Southern were mainly converted SUB units in all over Corperate Blue itself pretty rare by this time. I think a lot of these were converted in the late 70's and early eighties. Before then, would have been even older converted stock eg BIL's and HAL's etc.

Talking of SUBs, quite a few SUB carriages have only just been withdrawn along with some other full 2EPB sets (Departmental 977xxx), the last livery to be carried on the SUB carriages (And some full sets?) was Railtrack livery.
I have been watching a SR DVD and in Jaunuary 1990, a full Class 405 SUB livery in BR blue (or corperate blue) was sitting in the sidings at Dover rotting away, what a shame!![]()
It's a shame the SUB's never made it to the NSE era. They'd have carried toothpaste livery well
I sometimes imagine what it would have been like to have been a very accomplished rock star in the early nineties. I'd have a shed full of slammers instead of Rolls Royces![]()
