Two teenage boys on bikes have been filmed on CCTV holding onto a passenger train as it pulled out of a Highlands station.

British Transport Police described the behaviour in Kingussie earlier this month as "surfing".

The boys grabbed hold of handles on the doors of a carriage and were pulled along the platform.

BTP said the incident happened at about 19:30 on 8 January and appealed for information.

Constable Matt O'Neill said the behaviour was rare.

But he added: "It is an incredibly dangerous practice.

"I cannot underestimate how foolish it is to mess about around trains and stations.

"As well as potentially delaying trains you could be seriously injured."

Is this going to be every time? I know many people on here cant accpet that the railways or fellow railway staff could make a mistake BUT the summing up in the Liverpool case makes clear how and why the poor guard was liable. It is quite clear.

Here, i would expect, the train was dispatched and then the kids decided to hitch a lift. That said they are bloody stupid to do so!

There are issues across the network with youths on bikes. Yes I is a minority, bu a significant minority. I and several other members of staff repeatedly have trouble ith young miles from Chester le street who are flippant, cocky and abusive, riding bikes on platforms with no regard for their own or anyone else's safety, who dump their bikes on the train here hey feel like it and if anyone tries to tell them, they get abuse in return. Yet because of chain of care we cannot refuse them travel unless the station is manned!
