box shaped devices on platforms

does anyone have a clue what the box-shaped devices do with the car stops on them in this photo 4, 5, 6 and 8, 10, and 12 on the left with 8, 10 and 12 on the right

These are Drive Only Operation Camera Monitors, which are banks of screens showing live views of cameras along the platform. These are used in train dispatch when trains do not have bodyside cameras.

Just about to reply beat me to it, though was going to note the 10 car 376 stop board doesn't have one presumably as this has in cab monitors like the other Electrostar fleet has?

Don't know what the other board is without one too, lamp post seems to be hiding part of it looks like a 0 and below it a 'T' ?

No guard, hence Driver Only Operation ('DOO').

I think it is "10" and "T" standing for 'turnback for 10 cars' which might be required for shunting (often wrong directional or where train ends up beyond platform limits) but don't quote me on that!

These don't, but others across the network are used by train guards for dispatch on platforms with poor visibility i.e. excessively curved. Berkhamsted and Apsley for instance on the WCML
