Bournemouth to Leeds and return

I have a friend who would like to get to Leeds from Bournemouth to do a bit of family research. The dates aren't fixed but it would be something like travelling up on the 10th of August and back on the 12th. Two adults and he has a Network card.

£10 London-Leeds on the 2330 on 12th Aug (£8.70 more to leave 2 hrs earlier)
£33 Finsbury Pk - Bournemouth SVR with Network Railcard (Valid after 0930. Evening: Any train if going from Waterloo. Evening peak restrictions apply if travelling from Paddington).

Or you can buy a through Advance ticket, for £35 each way. The £35 rate applies equally to the 2130 or 2230 off KGX.

Very good but the legs are the other way round. Bournemouth to Leeds on the 10th and return on the 12th. I presume as both are weekdays it doesn't actually make a difference?

Well, the £6.70 fare quoted is the very cheapest AP fare for that flow, so my advice is to check out the fares for days and times you are considering ASAP before they all sell out!

The £45.55 fare in reverse is the same, except both portions are valid after 0930. (Evening peak restrictions apply out of Paddington, no evening peak restrictions out of other termini such as Waterloo/Victoria).

I would suggest the person with the Railcard splits @ Huntingdon, and the person without gets a through ticket (specifying via St Neots, so that you will both be on the same trains).

Looking at 10th Aug, 1858 from Huntingdon (1925 from Peterborough) is £6.70, same as 12th Aug. But this fare will sell out soon and the price will increase to £12.45, then £17.35...

The 0805, which is £6.70 on 10th, is up to £25.00 on 12th, but you can get the 0840 for £6.70. Other trains are £25 or £28 until 1140 when the price is £17.35...

If they are travelling together, then they both get the discount, so no need to worry about that.

The Network card allows 4 adults to travel together at the discounted rate.
Remember however on weekdays that you cannot use it before 10:00, so that is the earliest time you could leave Bournemouth if using the Network Card discount to get to London.

Actually, split tickets at St Neots instead of Huntingdon.

If you get the 0805 you are then after 1000 at St Neots (it calls at Huntingdon at 0958 ) so can remain on the same train to stay within the 1000 Network Railcard restriction. The £6.70 fares are the same. SNO-BHM is slightly cheaper at £40.30. 11th Aug also has cheap tickets on the 0805. 13th Aug has cheap tickets on both 0805 and 0840.

So the total is now down to £53.70 each.

OK, that's fine then, but as the fare from Leeds to St Neots is the same as Leeds to Huntingdon, but St Neots to Bournemouth is cheaper than Huntingdon to Bournemouth, so I'll stick with the suggestion of splitting at St Neots.
