Seeing as these platforms are still 'officaly open', do they ever seen any use by passenger trains?

Thanks,
Jim.

They're both used on occasions during engineering work or delays, but platform 1 can only be used by short trains.

Realtime trains shows that other than some ECS moves, there's a couple of trains booked to use P4 in the evening, 2B51 ex Waterloo is supposed to arrive at 1842 and terminate, and 2B53 Waterloo to Poole is supposed to make a normal call.

Last time this was discussed it was mentioned that they usually don't run through to P4 though; Eagle thought it was to potentially to prevent a delay to the following XC service: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=85659&highlight=bournemouth&page=7

During chaos two weeks ago when there was a points failure at Poole our weymouth to London Waterloo train which we eventually caught at Poole 45 minutes late conveniently terminated on platform 4.

We had to walk the full length of platform 4 and across the footbridge to battle with a thousand people already on platform 1.

It's the first time for many years that I have got on or off a train at platform 4.

It definitely proved its worth in such circumstances. The combination of platform 3 and 4 makes one very long platform.
