Bournemouth - Croydon - Stansted - Bournemouth triangular trip

Hi all,

Sun 25/6: BMH - ECR (afternoon)
Mon 26/6: ECR - SSD (morning peak)
Fri 30/6: SSD - BMH (late evening)

I have a Network Railcard.

Lowest price I've found is £63.50, which is BMH-CLJ advance single, TOM-SSD anytime single, and SSD-BMH advance single, with CLJ-ECR and ECR-TOM done on Oyster (£17.20, £15.70, £21.30, £2.60, £6.70).

I'm tempted though to go for BMH-CLJ off-peak return (using railcard) and TOM-SSD anytime return, with CLJ-ECR, ECR-TOM and TOM-CLJ all done on Oyster, which is £77.10 (£37.70, £26.00, £2.60, £6.70, £4.10), so that I have flexibility on the return leg in case of flight delays.

Am I missing any tricks, or am I already there?

I think BMH is Bournmouth, rather than Birmingham New Street, which is BHM.

Correct. To the OP, please explain abbreviations the first time you use them - it's a forum rule. A lot of people don't tend to remember all the station abbreviations especially when not around their neck of the woods!

Bournemouth to Brighton Route "Not Via London" SVR with Network Card £30.70
East Croydon to Stanstead Airport Anytime Return £40 (just to save getting off and touching in out etc.) Total £70.70
Return train has to call at Clapham Junction for the ticket changeover.
Victoria Tube station can be a pig in the morning rush, from East Croydon Thameslink to Farringdon, tube to Liverpool Street and then Stanstead Express is a good alternative or if you are a rucksack man rather than a wheely suitcase person East Croydon to London Bridge and then the walk is about 15 mins across the Thames to Liverpool Street nice if its a sunny morning.

Oh my goodness, that Brighton fare! Amazing! I had to double-check that wasn't the Via Barnham fare, but of course you're right.

That's also really good advice about the cross-London part.

Update: I have subsequently found that Greater Anglia are selling lightly discounted Stansted fares on their website for two people travelling together, which I can take advantage of, so if I do everything as you suggest including travelling to London Bridge and then walking to Liverpool Street, I can do it all for £63.90 per person (£30.70, £24.00, £5.10, £4.10) on fully flexible tickets, which feels like a great result.
