Booking Paris to Munich Sleeper

I want to book my wife and I onto the Paris to Munich overnight sleeper (City Night Line) and have been looking at Seat 61 for advice – however I’m slightly confused. I want to book us into a Deluxe 2 Berth Sleepr with en-suite shower and toilet. The prices on the site refer to 2 Bed yet the train layout shows 3 beds in the Deluxe room. Does this mean we have to pay for the extra bed to ensure sole use of the Deluxe Room? Or does booking as 2 mean the other Berth is not used – I wouldn’t want to find an extra person arriving to share the room!

Our 3 children are accompanying us – hopefully in an adjacent 3 bed economy sleeper. The site mentions you can have the rooms interconnecting – is it easy to achieve this by booking online or am I better using an agent to do this?

I believe that if the room yu book is described as 2 bed, and is for two persons, you will have sole use of the room. I understand that ther eis flexibility in the train layouts for these to be sold as either two or three bed sleepers, depending on the party size.

1. There are no 3 berth cabins on the Paris-Munich CNL
2. Economy cabins are usually not adjacent to deluxe cabins

Also, I suggest you ring up DB UK rather than book through www.bahn.de

Are you sure? cnl website disagrees - comfortline car with normal 3 berth compts which are sold as 1 2 or 3.

Agree booking online is not likely to succeed.

According to Seat 61 you can book interconnecting rooms and this statement would suggest interconnecting Deluxe and Economy. I quote

"If there's a small group of you, ask to book a pair of adjacent sleeper compartments with an inter-connecting door, which opens to make a suite for 2 to 6 persons, with or without shower & toilet."

On that diagram the connecting doors are between pairs of economy cabins only. It is obviously possible to have adjoining deluxe/economy cabins, just not interconnecting. Thinking about it, if they could be interconnecting then the economy cabin would, in effect, have use of a private shower which wouldn't work economically.
Anyway, I would also recommend booking this through db telesales.

"If you would like even more space and comfort, you can convert two adjacent compartments into a suite for up to six passengers by means of a combining door. You can combine two Economy compartments or one Economy and one Deluxe compartment. Please note that all passengers have to have a 1st class ticket if you book a combination of Deluxe and Economy."

So, looks ok.

Having problems trying to book this trip now. To get connecting rooms I decided to go via DB UK office to book - I'm getting email back saying that they are unable to book due to construction works! Can anyone explain what the problem is as they don't seem to know when bookings are going to become available. Currently they say they are unable to book trains between 1 August and December 2014. I've also had similar replies from DB in Germany and rail Europe.
