Booked Rolling stock..?

Hi there,
I am wondering if anybody could tell me what type of rolling stock is booked for three journeys:
The journeys are 0905 Shrewsbury-Swansea on the Heart of Wales line
1512 Carlisle to Preston via Barrow
1119 Barrow to Carlisle.

If you could tell me I'd be most grateful.

Barrow - Carlisle, that'll be a 156 or 153

Well the ones i've been on do but haven't been on an ATW one for ages but i 95% sure they do.

Oh good. I'm planning on doing these as 'scenic journeys', especially the Cumbrian Coast and to have the four of us that will be going on airline seats will be annoying. Especially for that length of time. Lets hope we get a 156 on the Cumbrian Coast (god forbid a 142 - I'd turn back at Barrow at that sight)!

Yes all 153s in service with Northern have tables. No class 142s are booked to work the Cumbrian coast anymore, but in times of need they still appear.

It's a relief to know that the 142s are no longer booked in service.
And that the 153s all have tables. It's a shame I can't reserve one, otherwise I might have a fight on my hands to get there first because there probably isn't many!!

I thought all the Pacers and Sprinters with Northern were in a common user pool, and therefore could work any diagram that's timed for a 75mph unit? :?

David, you are right in saying that the fleet is common user but services are still allocated a particular class of traction and all Cumbrian coast services are now booked to be 15x sets but in line with the common user policy 142s will appear as required and the crews still sign them.

Do you think that the Carlisle to Preston service is more likely to be a 156 though because of the fact it is doing a full 4 and a half hour journey? (Saying that - I believe Pacers can be booked for 3 hour journeys)

The Carlisle-Preston is normally a 156 and occasionally has a 153 attached

That's good to know - plenty of Table seats. Just out of interest which carriage would be most comfortable? The 153 or the 156? I've never been on a 153

In my opinion they are about the same comfort. Enjoy your trip!

156 way more comfortable.

Incredible lack of leg room on a 153, although that isn't usually a problem as being single car they are usually so jam packed full that you do well to get on at all let alone get a seat. Plenty of Northern complaints forms have been requested because of this.
