Experienced a situation this morning that seemed a little unusual. GWR swapped a booked call on 1F07 (Cardiff-Portsmouth Harbour) to 1L08 (Swansea-Paddington). This didn't seem to be advertised aside from an announcement at the station and on the train.
Two questions come to mind - firstly, why? I see that 1F07 was 2 carriages as opposed the booked 5. Was it to stop overcrowding? Secondly, given the vast majority of passengers would have been boarding rather than alighting at Severn Tunnel, was there much point in the additional stop? I can see it was done to be helpful (a rare situation on the railway!!) but probably wouldn't have benefitted many people given the call was moved to an earlier service. It didn't look like many people boarded (I'm on the London service).
