Bonnybridge/Greenhill new station - will it ever happen?

Hey guys. Been looking at some railscot stuff recently and looking over the old images of all the previous Bonnybridge stations and Greenhill. It's been a while now since the Falkirk Herald has last kicked up a stink about it, but nothing ever seems to happen. They shout a bit, Billy Buchannan rants for a while about how great it would be and how badly it's needed, and it all fizzles out for it to happen again 5 years later.

My question is, how would it work? Is it practical? Could you just dump a station on the line where the original was in 1967, in High Bonnybridge, over a railway bridge? Would the timetables allow for that, or would you need to build a whole new teeny branch that extended somewhere towards the canal?

It came up just a few months ago - it's unlikely to happen in the next few years as there's no support from Transport Scotland and as a result no official support from the council.

A veteran councillor’s campaign to bring a railway station to Bonnybridge hit the buffers as Falkirk councillors agreed not to support a fresh bid at this time.

But senior council officials told members that the council’s case for change had been put to Transport Scotland and had been firmly rejected, with no likelihood of this changing any time soon.

Head of assets, Paul Kettrick, told members that proceeding further “would not be a prudent use of funding or officer time” without the support of Transport Scotland.
