Members of Westminster City Council's planning applications sub-committee gave the go-ahead for the £3.5 million Bomber Command memorial

Was never involved myself (too young) but I remember the Wellingtons taking off from Ashbourne aerodrome. They came over so low you ciould see the wheels still spinning.

EDIT: Just checked Wikipedia. They would have been Whitleys

£3.5 million that's where this country has gone to pot, its easy council decide where its going to go some artists does it for free think of the publicity and a few council workers to erect it and change out of £4,000 or is that too easy:D

It's too easy. You've forgotten about the ground surveys, risk assessments, public conusltation exercises, planning enquiries et al.

It does seem a touch overpriced, and i'm no expert on monumental building and sculpture. I would hope it wasn't too ostentatious either, i do rather like the simplicity of our war monuments in general for instance. It's the British way of doing things. Simple and poingant. :)

It's great that that the heroes of Bomber Command should get a fitting memorial. Without their courage and dedication, I think the world would be quite different today.
